How we keep your data safe

At Salary Confidential, your privacy is at the center of everything we build

We know that conversations about compensation are sensitive, and we've designed our platform with security and discretion as top priorities.

Private by design

Surveys and results are never public

While you don't need a login to access a survey or its results, these pages are blocked from robots and search engines, and they have fairly un-guessable long filenames. The only way to view them is by knowing the exact, unique URL.

Hidden from bots

To further protect against scraping and automated access, we use Google reCAPTCHA, and Cloudflare bot detection. These tools help us detect and block suspicious traffic.

Securing result pages

Secret keys required

Every survey results page requires a secret key to be accessed. This ensures that even if someone stumbles across a link, they cannot open it without the correct key.

Isolated by design

We've designed our architecture so that your personal data stays protected — even from us.
Our public-facing services never connect directly to the database. Instead, they communicate through a secure backend gateway, a middle layer that doesn't store or expose any identifiable information about you.
That means even if someone tried to compromise it, there's simply nothing personal to take.

When you're signed in, our application connects securely to the database through encrypted, authenticated channels — just enough access to do what you've asked for, and nothing more.
Every request is verified, every access is logged, and sensitive information is never mixed with the public parts of our system.

In short: we've built our infrastructure to minimize risk by design — making it much harder to hack, and even harder to misuse.

No personal requester data

If a survey responder chooses to share a results URL that contains a key, the results will never reveal personal details of the survey requester or, of course, their responders (about whom we know nothing).

Requester details are shown while a survey is still open, but the moment it closes and publishes its report, the Requester and peer context for the report disappear from view. Only survey participants who saw the survey form while it was still open would know what was displayed there when more context was relevant. The survey report pages always assumes that the report could become public and intentionally gets published in a 'safe' state for privacy

Extra protection for Trust Circles

Trust Circle data - the user email and LinkedIn profile - is never actually present in our results report and only gets delivered to verified Trust Circle participants by email. Trust Circle data is also encrypted in our database, so even if our data leaked, compensation numbers cannot be connected to a Trust Circle user through those contact details.

Always evolving

We know that data privacy and protection is an ever-evolving space. That's why we are committed to:

  • Using state-of-the-art security measures,
  • Following principles of minimal data design (only collecting what's necessary) and being mindful of data exposure in our product design, both in the ways we intend but also in the ways we don't (when a respondent chooses to share their private key to view a result page for example)
  • Continuously improving as new tools and standards emerge.

Your trust is what makes Salary Confidential possible — and we take that responsibility seriously.
